Phuoc Thanh is an authentic Vietnamese bakery specialising in bánh mì (baguette).

For over 20 years, Phuoc Thanh has been baking fresh bread and serving traditional Vietnamese rolls to locals in inner Melbourne.

Phuoc [f-oo-k] means “Lucky” and Thanh [t-ah-n] translates to “Success” - doing the simple things well has translated to lots of luck and success for a family of bakers who originated from a region called Can Tho, 4 hours north of Saigon. Today, we call Australia home and with that comes our traditions and love of baking and serving authentic Viet street-side staples. The secret to our success lies in the humble Banh Mi, a traditional staple with French-Viet colonial origins that embodies freshness, balance, and flavour to quell even the hungriest.

With baking our bread rolls fresh throughout the day and making our home-made pate spread, we bring the “art of the roll” to life. Ordering the Crispy Pork roll goes down as a local favourite, drawing queues of followers from all over Melbourne coming for a glimpse of the Vietnamese culture. Fast, convenient, and packed with flavour. It’s the perfect all-day meal that has Melbourne’s food lovers coming back time and time again.

Our Story

Phuoc Thanh owner, Danny, studied the art of Vietnamese bread roll making. He later opened his first bakery in 1999 at 206 Victoria Street Richmond. For more than 24 years now, him and his team have focused on perfecting banh mi. Confident in his passion, he then opened up 3 more stores with the help of his daughters. A family business spreading the love of banh mi in Melbourne.
